Dr. Aafaq Nazir is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology at Cluster University of Srinagar. Prior to returning to India, he was a JSPS Postdoctoral Fellow at The University of Tokyo. His research expertise includes aquatic ecology, fish biology, and environmental geochemistry. His research integrates stable isotopes, trace-element geochemistry and molecular approaches to investigate how aquatic organisms respond to environmental variability and climate change. His work focuses on developing and applying innovative tools to reconstruct key fish life-history trait, including natal origin, habitat use, seasonal distribution, age and growth, trophic ecology, migration and population connectivity. These insights contribute to understanding species resilience and strengthening evidence-based fisheries conservation and management. Dr. Nazir has authored 21 research articles in SCI-indexed journals and has presented his research at international conferences in the United States, South Korea, Malaysia and Taiwan. He collaborates with leading institutions, including The University of Tokyo, Indian Institute of Science, National Taiwan University, and Aligarh Muslim University. He serves on the Editorial Board of Marine Ecology (Wiley) and contributes actively to the scientific community through peer review and professional societies.
